Matryoshka Mushroom – Wooden Nesting Toy

Matryoshka is a beloved old Russian toy, and the mushroom is a symbol of the dense forests found across central Russia, Siberia, and the Urals. Combined, these two images come together in a set that's simple and full of surprises — much like childhood itself.

Feathers, large beads, chestnuts, and sea pebbles can all be tucked inside the nesting pieces, or the pieces can double as little bowls for feeding teddy bears and dolls. Unfolded, the matryoshka pieces look like a scatter of toy mushrooms — perfect for hiding around the nursery and then gathering back up into a basket. They can even become a family of their own, with the largest piece as mom or dad and the smallest as the youngest child.

Children love opening and closing matryoshkas, lining them up by height, and discovering that one large piece holds many smaller ones inside. Traditional Russian nesting dolls aren't always the easiest for little hands, though — the wood can be rough, and the pieces often close too tightly. This matryoshka was designed with children's needs specifically in mind.

Production:
Carefully handcrafted from ethically sourced solid wood, bringing out the quiet beauty of its grain and natural character.

Features:
Matryoshka Mushroom is made using the lathe method — a round billet is placed on a rotating machine, and a craftsperson uses a sharp knife to shape the wood by hand. This is an ancient technique that few people still practice today, which is why the number of toys made this way is limited. Thanks to this method, though, the parts of the matryoshka are perfectly smooth, and easy to open and close.
