The wood used for Grapat toys (primarily beech and birch) comes from sustainable forests. Wood is the material that inspires the workshop daily: robust yet soft, warm to the touch, lovely to hear and to smell. The dyes are water-based and non-toxic, allowing the grain of the wood to show through and bringing children into closer contact with nature. Finishes are made from waxes and oils of vegetable origin — these oils can carry a strong aroma at first, though it fades within a few days.

Each piece is painted by hand, so no two are quite alike. Natural imperfections are embraced as part of the wood itself: beautiful, and part of what makes the material so valuable.
